I use Emacs daily, writing almost everthing with it. I follow twitter, use Gtalk, write my emails, even write here directly with Emacs.
Why?
Necessities in editing are endless. There can be no single tool to meet everybody's needs, but through extensiblity with a consistent interface, Emacs can provide whatever you like and be whatever you want.
